Working with Filters

Filters allow you to display or use only those time records that match a specific filter.

Open the Filters pane in the Control Panel (under the View menu).

Select Control Panel - > Filters from the View menu

The Filters Pane

Here you can edit existing filters, or create new filters. The literal description of the selected filter appears below the list of filters. In the example above, the filter “Client Kinko” would match all time records whose client name contains the word kinko. To add a filter, click the + button. To delete a filter, select it and click the - button. Double-click a filter to edit it.

Defining a Filter

To edit a filter, double-click it, or select it and click the Edit button. The above window appears. To add a definition, click a + button. To delete a definition, click the - button. In the window above, we have defined the following filter: client contains kinko AND the start date is after 1/26/2008. Notice that the definition above states "All of the following are true." If you change the All to Any, then the definition changes to: client contains kinko OR the start date is after 1/26/2008.

Applying a Filter to a Window with Time Records

Open (or create) a TimeSlice standard window that displays time records. Suppose you have many time records with many different clients, but for this particular window, you only want to see time records that match the name kinko and have a start date after 1/26/08. The window's filter can be changed in several ways, but the easiest is to select the filter from the popup button on the bottom of the window.

Select the Filter of Interest

Here is a picture of the same window, but the filter defined above has been applied to the window. Now only those time records of interest are displayed. Define as many filters as you want, and give them as many definitions as you want. Filters can also be used in the iCal, Budget, Summary, Invoice and other windows.
